Red Carpet rolled out for UAE’s first movie experience in a hospital

Al Jalila Children’s and Roxy Cinemas collaborate to bring hit movie Hotel Transylvania 3 to the hospital

Al Jalila Children’s, UAE’s only children’s hospital, and Roxy Cinemas, operated by Dubai-based holding company Meraas, rolled down the red carpet to bring the first in-hospital movie experience to the UAE. The initiative, dedicated to the young patients of Al Jalila Children’s who can’t make it to the cinemas during their stay in the hospital, in addition to the some of the out-patient clinics visitors on the day, saw Roxy Cinemas showcase of Hotel Transylvania 3: a Monster Vacation – the third film of the hugely successfully franchise, at the auditorium of Al Jalila Children’s which was renamed Hollywood Boulevard for the occasion on July 17.

To create a fun filled experience, the ground floor of Al Jalila Children’s was transformed into a red carpet similar to a film festival, with paparazzi snapping photographs of children as they walked the red carpet; every child was treated to a box of gluten free popcorn and organic juice as they entered the one-day cinema hall. Moreover, Drac and Ericka, two of the main characters in the movie, surprised the young patients with a visit for a meet and greet experience, and gave away goodie bags to all.

Dr. Mohamed Alawadhi, Chief Operating Officer of Al Jalila Children’s said, “this step comes in line with our strong believe that children with health challenges have the right to live a normal childhood like all their peers. In addition, by hosting this fun-filled experience, we are being true to the Hospital’s slogan ‘A Place Where I Can be a Child’, thus ensuring that emotional and moral treatment goes parallel with our world class pediatric healthcare, which contributes to a faster recovery process.”

“We thank Roxy Cinemas for bringing the first in-hospital movie experience to Al Jalila Children’s and it goes to show how collaborations between entities can manifest into substantial initiatives for the whole community, and in this case, for children.”

Andrew Keeling, General Manager Entertainment Zone, Leisure and Entertainment at Meraas said: “Roxy Cinemas are pleased to partner with Al Jalila’s Children’s to brighten the day of young patients. Children deserve to be children and if they can’t come to the cinema we are more than happy to bring the cinema to them”.
