Dr. Abdul Rahim Mustafawi is Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Al Jalila Children’s and is well-known in the medical community in the UAE. A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, and the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Mustafawi was Senior Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Latifa Hospital prior to joining Al Jalila Children’s. He was the Vice President of the Medical Council of the Dubai Health Authority, and was also Chairman of the Central Disaster Committee at Dubai Health Authority. He is also the President of The Arab Association of Paediatric Surgeons and has presented numerous papers internationally.
Dr. Abid Qazi is Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Al Jalila Children’s and trained in Pakistan and the United Kingdom. He has fellowships in paediatric surgery from United Kingdom, Europe, and Pakistan. He has published two books in paediatric surgery and several papers on various topics of paediatric surgery. Dr. Abid was awarded a medal of distinction (Tamgha-I Imtiaz) by the President of Pakistan in 2000 for his outstanding achievements in the field of paediatric surgery. His main interest is in paediatric solid tumours. He has worked in a high volume dedicated cancer hospital for 5 years. Taking paediatric renal tumour as an index operation, he has performed over 100 tumours in less than 5 years with very good outcome including nephron sparing surgery. He is also well versed with the surgery of liver tumours in children, germ cell tumour and neuroblastoma. He has very good experience of applying laparoscopic technique in removing tumours where it is safe to do so.
His skills are well recognised internationally. He is a member of International Society of Paediatric Surgical Oncology (IPSO), International Society of Paediatric Oncology and Pakistan Society of paediatric Oncology (PSPO) and also a member of CCLG, UK. Dr. Waldo Concepcion is Transplantation Surgery Consultant at Al Jalila Children's and was previously Chief of Clinical Transplantation and Chief of Pediatric Kidney Transplantation at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics, USA. He specialises in kidney and liver transplantation, liver tumors, dialysis access, and surgical treatment of liver, pancreas, and bile ducts.
Dr. Waldo completed his medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, developed a passion for transplantation and spent two years working in a research lab with his mentor Dr. Leonard Bailey, training in heart transplantation. After his Residency, he went to the University of Pittsburgh under the guidance of Dr. Thomas Starzl, the father of modern organ transplantation. Dr. Waldo's passion and focus has been the treatment of children with kidney and liver disease. He has developed innovative surgical techniques to treat children with complex vascular problems and is able to provide kidney transplantation. Dr. Waldo continues to research on kidney regeneration by mesenchymal stem cell and immunomodulation of the immune response by the use of apoptotic DNA technology.
