The Nutrition Department in Al Jalila Children’s is dedicated to providing nutrition assessment and counselling for paediatric patients of all ages, both inpatient and outpatient. All inpatients are provided with a variety of nutritionally balanced meals which are specially prepared as per the guidelines of therapeutic diet and are approved by the Nutrition Department. We also provide child-friendly, delicious meals prepared in a healthy way to balance taste with health. Our team is qualified to provide nutrition education and counselling for all patients, in all age groups – neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged children and adolescents.
We conduct nutrition assessment using different tools and innovative automated forms. Each patient is provided an individualized plan and nutrition education is provided by means of food models and handouts. Regular follow ups are conducted to ensure continued development. Nutrition supplements and specialized formulas are also prescribed for patients who require them.
The Nutrition Department at Al Jalila Children’s deals with all paediatric disorders that affect and are affected by nutrition. We work as a part of the multidisciplinary team to provide the best nutrition care to promote proper growth and development. Our nutrition expertise include failure to thrive, metabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus, cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, epilepsy, food allergies and intolerances, renal disorders, cardiovascular disorders, cancer, obesity, feeding difficulties etc. Our future endeavours include starting a learning kitchen to demonstrate, educate and provide hands on training for the patients about their food preparation and choices.
