Adolescent Clinic

Adolescent Medicine is a relatively new medical field in the region and is considered a sub-speciality that specifically deals with patients aged 10 to 18 years. Professionals acquire interdisciplinary skills necessary to address the unique intertwining of medical, developmental and psychosocial issues characteristic of the adolescent patient.

At Al Jalila Children’s, in addition to offering comprehensive paediatric health services for adolescents with chronic illnesses, the Adolescent Medicine Clinic provides a highly specialised consultation service on the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of adolescent specific disorders. These include gynaecologic and reproductive endocrinologic conditions that afflict adolescent girls such as menstrual disorders and management, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, excessive menstrual bleeding, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and nonsurgical management of ovarian cysts, and congenital genital tract anomalies.

In addition, we have a multidisciplinary team approach to the diagnosis and management of obesity and its comorbidities, eating disorders, and teens engaged in high-risk behaviour.

We are dedicated to providing our teenagers with quality, evidence-based care from their initial visit until we guide them through the transition process to their adult medical home. Our doctors will listen to, and address your concerns as a parent. However, for most teens, the majority of the visits will be with the adolescent doctor alone.

Routine medical care for adolescents includes a part of the visit that is confidential but we always encourage our adolescent patients to discuss their health concerns with parents or guardians when appropriate. Our goal is to support physical and mental health by fostering partnerships, providing quality multidisciplinary care and effectively communicating with the patient, parent, and healthcare professionals.

Our Adolescent Clinic provides:

  • Comprehensive primary care including annual health care and preventive care visits for teens. (PE, vaccine update, sports physicals, sick visits)
  • Management of general paediatric and adolescent medical conditions including asthma, acne, obesity etc.
