60,000 Young Patients Visited Al Jalila Children’s in 2 Years of operations

Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, the first and only children’s hospital in UAE, received around 60,000 patients in its first 2 years of operations. Inaugurated on the 1st of November 2016, the state of the art 200-bed paediatric hospital had 10,000 visits to its Emergency Department, and conducted more than 2,000 surgeries ranging from simple one day operations to highly complex paediatric surgeries. Additionally, a total of 1650 dialysis sessions were conducted during the same period.

Earlier this this month, Al Jalila Children’s announced that it had successfully conducted the first paediatric kidney transplant in Dubai, a landmark achievement and a milestone for the young entity. The surgery was performed by a joint medical team from Al Jalila Children’s and Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU).

Dr. Abdulla Al Khayat, CEO of Al Jalila Children’s, said: “2 years of operations are considered as baby steps in the realm of hospitals in general, and we are extremely proud that Al Jalila Children’s was able to achieve so much in such a short period.”
“Our objective is, and will always be, growing our three main pillars, which are excellence in paediatric health care, creating world class academic programmes, and conducting in-depth medical researches, and our accomplishments in the past 2 years are a clear indication of the success of our strategy.”

Following the launch of the first paediatric residency programme in the UAE back in August this year, Al Jalila Children’s also recently announced its Mental Health Fellowship programme, both accredited by the Saudi Board of Health Specialities. In addition, more than 60 evidence based paediatric researches were conducted by Al Jalila Children’s doctors, covering a wide spectrum of common and rare medical issues specifically for children. In 2018, Al Jalila Children’s saw four new multi-disciplinary clinics launched – Diabetes Clinic, Aerodigestive Clinic, Weight & Wellness Clinic, and Sleep Centre, along with the first of its kind in-hospital schooling programme for its inpatients.

From his side, Dr. Mohamad Al Awadhi, COO of Al Jalila Children’s, commented on the second anniversary facts and figures. “We are very happy with what was achieved in the past 2 years, mainly due to the team work philosophy that we have adapted within the hospital.”
“Yet, this is only the beginning, and we are very much determined to keep up our efforts that will eventually lead us to achieve our vision of being one of the top paediatric hospitals in the world,” Dr. Al Awadhi concluded.
